Is STEP an incubator or an accelerator?

STEP is both an incubator and an accelerator. It welcomes teams or entrepreneurs who have an idea, albeit a structured one, to be transformed into a company. In a more advanced phase, STEP takes care of realising the business plan up to the launch of the products and services on the market and achieving the first sales.

How do I submit a business idea to STEP?

To submit your business idea, you need to visit the STARTUP section, fill in all parts of the APPLY form and send it to us. The first calls for start-ups will be open and published on the site by March 29th 2020.

When will I receive feedback on my application?

You will receive an initial reply within 5 working days. In order to assess eligibility, a fact-finding meeting will be necessary, at our office or via video call, to analyse the details of your proposal. Depending on the complexity of the project, you will receive a final answer within 30 days.

Do I need to have already set up the company in order to send my application?

No, you don’t. One of the services we offer you is the possibility to access the legal advice service that will help you in dealing with the paperwork to set up your company.

Which are the evaluation criteria?

The projects will be evaluated according to the following criteria: ability of the project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; level of innovation and uniqueness of the proposal; technical feasibility and economic sustainability; scalability and replicability of the solution.

Do I have to have a Minimum Viable Product before I can apply?

Ideally, yes. This “prototype” should include the minimum essential characteristics of what the final product will be and is useful for immediately gathering feedback from potential customers, thereby successfully allowing us to gradually create a proven and saleable product. An MVP does not necessarily have to fully solve the problem it has set out to solve, but it is fundamental for us in order to test your initial intuition and understand how to improve it, one step at a time.

Does STEP finance projects?

Yes. STEP finances your project up to the sum necessary to realise the idea and to sell the first products on the market.

Does STEP equity invest in start-ups?

No, not necessarily. STEP invests in equity if requested by the start-ups themselves.

Does STEP develop the technology necessary for carrying out the project?

Yes. In addition to business support services and management consultancy, STEP helps you in the actual development of your projects.

How long does the incubation + acceleration journey proposed by STEP take?

The incubation and acceleration journey that we offer you takes as long as you need to realise the project and sell the products and services. We hope this will happen as soon as possible, within 12 months of joining STEP.

How much does the incubation + acceleration journey proposed by STEP cost?

The journey we offer does not require advance payment of any cost. We ask for a percentage of the revenue that will be achieved during the first few years, thanks to our work. This percentage will be agreed when the start-up joins STEP, at the end of the analysis of the real needs to industrialise the product and the actions to be implemented to break into the market.
