Data Scientist

Cambridge University Press is part of the University of Cambridge. Our mission is to unlock people's potential with the best learning and research solutions. Playing a leading role in today's global market place, we have over 50 offices around the globe, and we distribute our products to nearly every country in the world.

About the Role

To further this mission we are seeking a Data Scientist to join our Architecture team based in Cambridge. The Data Scientist will work with Technology and with the Press’ business teams, using data science tools, to identify ways the Press can improve its capability to further this mission. They will also coordinate the work of the Data Analysts who work in other areas of the business. The Data Scientist will therefore form the core of a cross-team ‘Centre of Excellence’ for data processing and analytics at the Press.

The types of business challenges you may tackle could include:

  • How children in developing countries could get better access to our learning materials
  • Helping teachers find the most effective textbook material for their classes
  • How the Press could produce and distribute learning materials in more cost effective manner and pass on those savings
  • How the Press could better help academic researchers find knowledge and distribute their papers

About You

It is essential you can demonstrate strong business understanding and communication skills alongside thought leadership skills. You should have extensive technical and mathematical/ statistical knowledge, and a proven track-record of using data science to formulate and present the answers to business questions. You will therefore need to be as comfortable communicating the insights to senior business users as discovering the insights from the data.
