Software Engineer (API specialist)

Kalo is a SaaS company providing a one-stop solution for companies to manage their freelance workers – through onboarding, task management, and payment. We serve tens of thousands of users, processing millions of dollars in payments, working with global brands, and this is only the beginning. We’re looking for help on our internal and external based APIs.

We’re looking to:

* improve the functionality of what you can do with our APIs

* really dig into the performance of our current tech stack to see where we can improve our performance and be kind to our deployment server

* improve the user experience of our public API

* create new integration platforms so that external systems can create content and produce functionality in the Kalo platform

* our testing pyramid - we deploy to production multiple times a day so like to know that with that great power we have enough safety checks to ensure that we can celebrate our releases

* refine our application architecture as we look to create something which will scale with us as a company and not hold our progress back

Currently, our application is built with Python 3 (Flask) and deployed to multiple Cloud Foundry based deployment environments. We’re looking to improve response times across the stack, ensure that we continue to be using tools that are the best ones for the problems we’re solving.

Here’s what you will bring:

* Strong experience in API engineering and architecture, and knowledge of current best practices, for both greenfield and existing software

* An understanding and appreciation of the work of our front-end engineers to create a deployment and developer experience that works for everyone

* Experience or a desire to work in an Agile/Lean/Continuous Delivery environment

* Ability to work in a variety of client settings and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with people ranging from the CTO to our customer support team

* Some experience with deploying applications in cloud-based environments

What we’re offering:

* generous salary (range between £70k to £100k)

* meaningful equity packages

* relaxed working environment - we have an office with communal lunches provided, drinks, snacks and regular celebratory cakes but we appreciate that at times that’s not the place where you’ll do your best work. When this happens we offer ample opportunity to work at your own happy place. We have a number of full time and part time remote workers and are always open to discussing what works best for our team

* an open and supportive engineering culture - all views are considered, all team members have opportunities to have their voices heard and anything that is clearly not working for us we look at ways to improve (or just remove) to ensure we spend our time working on the problems that provide the most value to the company

* monthly wellness grant

* contribution based pension

What's next?

We have a 3 stage interview process consisting of a phone interview, code review/pairing exercise and a face to face with one of our engineering managers and our CTO but everything starts off with a chat. If you want to apply now use the buttons here to get your CV in our system and you'll be hearing from someone on the team soon.
